Denver Architecture Foundation’s signature event is exactly as it sounds – an opportunity to open the doors to the places and spaces that make the Mile High City such a special city in which to live, work, study and play.
Doors Open Denver 2024 – September 26-29, 2024
This year, we will explore Denver’s past, present, and future with our theme Denver Through Time.
- A Kick-off Keynote lecture by Vishaan Chakrabarti, Founder of PAU Studio and author of the upcoming The Architecture of Urbanity: Designing for Nature, Culture, and Joy, at the Denver Art Museum, followed by a book signing and reception
- A free celebration honoring winners of the Y/OUR Denver photography competition at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center
- A Doors Open Denver Kick-off Reception at the loft of Carla Hartman, granddaughter of Ray and Charles Eames; Hartman will discuss her current creative projects and her family’s unusual collections on view in the residence she shares with her husband, noted painter Carl Hartman
Explore some of Denver’s most well known spaces during Open Site hours on Friday September 27! The following buildings will be opening their doors from 10am-4pm unless otherwise noted. More buildings will be added to this list in the coming weeks.
- Tours of select architectural gems, a signature element of Doors Open Denver
- Union Station | 9:30am-4:30pm | 1701 Wynkoop St Denver, CO 80202
- On the Boards, a new programming addition during which 15+ local architecture firms open the doors to their offices to the public to showcase recent and future projects
- “Creativity and Construction at Cleo Parker Robinson,” with welcome remarks from Malik Robinson, a dance performance by Cleo Parker Youth Ensemble, a cocktail reception, and presentation of the new three-level, 25,000 square foot expansion, designed by Fentress Architects, adjacent to the organization’s historic headquarters, The Cleo Parker Robinson Center for the Healing Arts
- More tours and open houses of iconic Denver buildings, including a focus on Colfax Avenue, with tours in partnership with Historic Denver.
- A free screening of Frey: The Architectural Envoy at Walker Fine Art, which documents the life and influence of the Swiss-born mid-20th century architect Albert Frey, who helped bring Corbusian-influenced modernism to the United States; sponsored by film producers Design Onscreen, the Denver architecture and design enthusiasts Jill A. Wiltse and H. Kirk Brown III
- The first-ever Doors Open Denver wrap party at the Posner Center for International Development, more details forthcoming
Through the four-day Doors Open Denver, open houses and tours will take place at at least fifteen different iconic locations. The full list will be announced by the start of September. We look forward to seeing you there!
